Nigel, my first report ever, recently went to New Zealand, and he’s started writing a blog with photos. That’s a nice way to enable us all to find out what he’s up to.
Besøg
Min søster og hendes kæreste, Bjørn, og hans to børn, Felix og Theodor, er på besøg for tiden. De bruger en del tid med at se TV på min seng. Men vi har også været på restaurant (Bistro du Sud), og i morgen tager de til Arran.
Halvvejs
Det er i dag den 24. juni – det vil sige, der nu er præcist et halvt år til juleaften! Og i går var det sankthans – det er en af de dage, jeg savner Danmark mest…
The problem with Ikea
I just put up a shelf in my bathroom. It looks nice, and it feels very stable and solid, but there was one tiny problem. One end of the shelf was wider than the other end, and it didn’t fit into the bracket. I solved it by shaving off a bit of the shelf (just 1mm did the trick), but you’re not supposed to do that! I don’t have an issue with Ikea outsourcing shelf production to Romania, but they need to be strict with their internal quality control – this is just plain sloppiness!
The price of DIY
Why is DIY so bloody expensive? Yesterday, I went to B&Q and Ikea, and I didn’t buy anything big or fancy – just covings, skirtings, saw blades, paint rollers, a chair, some shelves, some floor underlay and a box of tiles – and it cost me more than £200!
Fortunately, Phyllis gave me a lift, or I would have had to go several times to get it all home… Thanks!

According to the new Rough Guide to Britain (see a review here), the Glasgow School of Art, here in Garnethill, is no. 16 on the list of attractions in the UK, and the highest-placed one in Glasgow.
One year
Exactly a year ago today, at 11am, my solicitor called me to tell me I was a flat owner. The timing was not ideal – I was going to Denmark the following day, and I had to get my stuff back from storage before then, so it was really stressful. And since then, all my time and money has been going into the flat – life as a flat owner is really very different from being a tenant!
Free umbrella
When I got home today, I saw that I had received a small package. I was a bit surprised, since I wasn’t expecting anything, but my surprise grew when I opened it and found that it contained a perfectly good umbrella. It seems some dog-loving charity thinks I’d like to give money to improve the lives of dogs in South Africa. They don’t know me very well, it seems. 
Gangbarn
Jes & Trine, der begge boede på min gamle kollegiegang, 8 2., og som blev kærester, mens de besøgte mig herovre, har nu fået deres første barn. Han hedder Storm. De bor godt nok ikke på gangen længere, men det er da næsten et gangbarn. Tillykke til dem!
Picasa
I just downloaded Picasa for Linux from Google Labs. It’s a really nice tool for organising all the pictures on your harddisk, and it gives you nice tools to improve photo quality. It is also integrated with Blogger, so I posted this from within Picasa. 
Update: In posting this, I seem to have unearthed a bug in the software. I swear the photo looked fine on my harddisk, but somehow Picasa corrupted the bottom half while uploading it.
